Beholding God through his Word

At Imago Dei Church we say we exist to Behold Jesus, Become like Him, and Display him to all of the world. It is our desire and earnest prayer to see the cities we live in transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Whatever we want God to do through us though must first be done in us. As we seek to see God radically transform our cities; we must be transformed ourselves.

Paul writes, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.” (2 Cor. 3:18) This transformation doesn’t take place through will-power or by separating ourselves from the world. It only happens by fixing our eyes upon Jesus. As we behold Jesus, we become more and more like Him so that we can display Him to all the world.

We firmly believe that the God of the Bible is not a distant deity. He pursues us and desires to be known by us.  So, he has given us his Word. Through God’s Word we behold God. We learn who he is, what he has done to reconcile the world to himself, and how he wants us to participate in that ministry of reconciliation. The Scriptures are God’s self-revelation to us.

The Bible isn’t just an old book. It’s a gift by which we encounter the living triune God. Empowered by the Spirit, we approach it with joy, wonder, and eager expectation that God will show us who He is and change us from the inside out. This blog is a window into that process. Each week, someone from our church community will write describing what God has been doing in and through them as they read and reflect on His Word. Come along and see what God does as we behold him through his Word.
